Treetops Resort Traverse City

Robert Trent Jones, Sr.'s final design in Michigan is truly a masterpiece. In his own words, Jones claimed it his crowning glory. The course is located at the headwaters of the Pigeon River and takes full advantage of natural valleys, ravines and broad plains. The signature sixth hole features a 120' vertical drop and a panoramic view of the Pigeon River Valley.
Premier is the only course in Michigan designed by famed architect Tom Fazio, making the most of the rolling terrain and striking the perfect balance between challenge and forgiveness. When asked to name a signature hole, Fazio replied, “All of them!”
Rick Smith, renowned architect and golf instructor, set the bar high with Signature, his first 18-hole course. The course unfolds into high upland and features undulating greens and wide, forgiving fairways. Signature has been rated a Top 50 Course for Women.
The Treetops Resort includes five of the golf courses in Gaylord, Michigan. Over the past couple of decades, this area of northern Michigan has become a true mecca for championship resort golf. The Tradition at Treetops Resort was designed by Rick Smith, and it opened in 1997. In terms of courses that honor the origins of the game, The Tradition is one of the best golf courses in Michigan. Old-time pennant flags and wooden pins are employed on small, tricky bent grass greens that honor the conditions navigated by the likes of Hagen, Jones, and Ouimet. From the tips, The Tradition can play as long as 6,357 yards. It is a par 70 test that plays to a slope of 130. The USGA course rating is 70.0.

Perhaps the signature hole is the ninth, a par three. This uphill slog demands that you use enough club. Hefty cuts of rough, tricky bunkers, and those tall trees make one's arrival at each perfectly manicured green a welcome moment. This resort facility tends to offer the finest that north Michigan golf offers in terms of a driving range, practice greens, top-of-the-line pro shop, and dining facilities. From the condition of the course to the world-class service, The Tradition Course at Treetops Resort makes discount Michigan tee times a most worthwhile pursuit.
Rick Smith's first par three course has received national recognition since it opened, consistently ranking as the #1 par three course in America by Golf Magazine, Golfweek, Golf & Travel and several others. It's perhaps the most recognized par three course in America. For a number of years, Threetops hosted the ESPN Par 3 Shootout. Lee Trevino recorded an ace on #7 during the Shootout in 2001. The course itself features elevated greens and tees with noticeable slopes.
