Shawnee Hills Golf Course Cleveland

Shawnee Hills is a Bedford Hts golf course that includes both an 18-hole regulation course and a par-3 nine-hole layout that measures 1,293 yards. Cleveland MetroParks operates this facility in the Bedford reservation that is certainly one of the most popular courses in the system among avid golfers. In fact, in terms of quality muni layouts, it may be one of the best golf courses in Ohio. It's easily reached via I-480, which is only a short distance to the east.

The first nine holes opened back in 1959 after being designed by Benjamin Zink. Zink was actually the course superintendent at both Acacia and Kirtland. He contributed the designs of a number of Cleveland area courses in his day. Today, just four of those original nine holes at Shawnee Hills remain. In 1989, the layout was expanded to its present configuration. From the longest tee boxes, this test measures 6,366 yards long. The course slope is 69.7, and the USGA rating is 115. You'll be tested by a park-like layout with large trees, bunkers, and Deer Lick Creek. The course is generally pretty forgiving, and therefore quite relaxing to play.

However, there are distinct exceptions to this. The fourth hole may in fact be the toughest par four in the whole MetroParks system. It is a converted par five that plays 469 yards from the back tees. What's more, it's uphill most of the way from tee-to-green. As you make your way from the tenth green to the eleventh tee, take note of the gravesite of Mary Egbert. She was a member of the family that originally farmed this land in the early 1800s.

Tee times in Bedford Hts will get you on beautiful bluegrass fairways leading to well-kept Bentgrass greens. One reviewer specifically noted the "well-maintained" greens. A couple of players suggested that the back nine was tougher than the front nine. In fact, it is on the backside where Deer Lick Creek makes repeated, and sometimes challenging, appearances. The backside is also decidedly more hilly, so those tough sidehill lies may occur a bit more often.

Those wanting to practice will find a 29 station driving range and a practice green. Of course, the best way to warm up is to play the par-3 course before taking on the regulation 18. The pro shop offers a way to pick up another glove or sleeve of balls before you tee off. This is one course where a player can enjoy a double bogey -- the Double Bogey Grill. Select your lunch or dinner from a large and varied menu.

Seriously consider Shawnee Hills Golf Course discount tee times whether you are a low-handicap player or not. The various tee sets will address every skill level. This is a well-kept municipal course that can be played at a very reasonable cost.
This 18 hole layout in the Bedford Reservation first opened in 1957 after being designed by Ben Zink. Over the subsequent decades, the course has been modified and updated. Today, from the back tees, it is a 6,366 yard long test that features a course rating of 69.7. The par 71 course carries a slope of 115.

The front nine features rolling terrain and plenty of water. The back nine, by contrast, features many mature hardwoods 'midst a tree-studded layout. Deer Lick Creek also meanders beautifully through the final nine. Its one of the golf courses in Ohio that has a Florida feel on the front and more of a Carolina feel on the back.

The signature hole at Shawnee Hills is undoubtedly the par four fourth hole. It's a 469 yard slog uphill along a fairway that is tree-lined and that doglegs left along the way. Some have contended that it is the toughest hole in the entire Cleveland Metroparks golf system. Take on this Bedford Hts golf course and play a most memorable hole.

A 29-stall driving range, practice green, pro shop, and snack bar are all provided for players. Added practice, or just plain fun, can be had at the 1,273 yard, par 27 executive-style course, also at Shawnee Hills. This is a good facility at which to explore Bedford Hts tee time deals.
