Elkhorn Golf Course Oregon

When this Lyons golf course was still a nine hole test, it was named as one of the best such courses in America by Golf Digest. Quite an achievement for a man named Don Cutler that first saw this land while out on a fishing trip. He then bought it and developed this initial nine which opened for play in 1976. The second nine was added in 2000. Today, this picturesque layout plays to a par of 71, and it measures 6,242 yards from the tips. The slope for the course is 126, and the course rating is 70.6. Regardless of score, golfers are invariably inspired by the tapestry of tall stands of fir, wandering streams, canyons, wetlands, tall grasses, and wildflowers. The original front nine alone includes six lakes. On the backside, the 185 yard 11th hole is all carry over the water from the men’s tees.

One reviewer said that, of all the courses in the Willamette Valley, this was one of the best golf courses in Oregon in terms of ambiance. Another player commented on how well the trees frame the narrow, well-manicured fairways. There is a practice green at Elkhorn. Snacks and beverages are also offered. Tee times in Lyons here at Elkhorn Golf Course are more than worth it. The Cutler family's labor of love over the decades is a Willamette Valley treasure.
