About Architects Golf Club
Phillipsburg,NJ
Some of the game’s greatest course architects have been resurrected here by golf course architect Steven Kay (Blue Heron Pines, Scotland Run) and Golf Digest architecture editor Ron Whitten. The course, located right near the Pennsylvania border, pays tribute to these men with holes created in accordance with their trademark styles. The architects, who were active during the 70-year span between 1885-1955 and deemed by Kay and Whitten to be the most influential to American golf, include Old Tom Morris, A.W. Tillinghast, Donald Ross, Alister Mackenzie, Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and 13 others.
This is an opportunity to play holes like the ones found on some of the world’s greatest courses, such as Colt and Alison’s Pine Valley, Hugh Wilson’s Merion, Old Tom Morris’ Carnoustie and Muirfield in Scotland, and C.B. MacDonald’s Chicago Golf Club and National Golf Links of America.
We say “like” because this is by no means a replica course – you won’t find any exact copies of any famous holes out there. Rather, it’s a “tribute” course, in which the holes borrow shaping, bunkering and strategic styles from the greats.
